THERE WILL BE NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, APRIL 18TH IN OBSERVANCE OF GOOD FRIDAY.
APRIL VACATION: Friday, April 18th through Friday, April 25th school will be closed for our spring break. Students will return to school on Monday, April 28th.
MCAS SCHEDULE: MCAS season is upon us. Our grades 3-8 students are participating in the state’s annual MCAS testing. This is still a very important assessment for our students and measures our progress as a school in comparison to other schools in our district and throughout the state of Massachusetts. Students’ participation in this test is of utmost importance.
Please find the link to the MCAS schedule below, where you can find out exactly when
your student(s) are scheduled to test.
THEME OF THE MONTH: Throughout the month of April we will be embracing the theme of Honesty. Honesty or truthfulness is a facet of moral character that connotes positive and virtuous attributes such as integrity, truthfulness, straight forwardness, along with the absence of lying, cheating, theft, etc. Honesty also involves being trustworthy, loyal, fair, and sincere. Staff will be on the lookout throughout this month for the students who best personify this theme.

EDUCATIONAL HAPPENINGS:
Kindergarten-Second Grade: BRAVO to all the Kindergarten, First grade, and Second grade students on an excellent concert!! Thank you to everyone who helped make the concert a success!
7th Grade: Students in Mrs. Seed’s ELA classroom recently celebrated their hard work on MCAS with a well-earned Read-a-Thon Day! Each class was invited to wear comfy clothes, bring a favorite snack, and enjoy an extended period of independent reading with a book of their choice. Before diving in, students set personal reading goals and later reflected on their progress. It was a wonderful day filled with cozy reading and a shared love of books!
8th: All students participated in a Zoom call with Holocaust Survivor, Janet Applefield Singer on Monday afternoon. We hope that all of this knowledge will support their understanding while visiting the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC. After April break students will complete the 3rd and final iReady ELA and Math diagnostics of the year. These scores will be reported to their high schools. The 8th-grade math MCAS exam is scheduled for May 7 and May 9. Students are currently working with data sets to make predictions in math class.
NEWS FROM OUR NURSES: Spring break is finally here!! The holiday can be relaxing for everyone; however, taking basic precautions reduces the risk of injury. Here are some safety tips to keep everyone safe:
- Protect against the sun: Make sure to apply sunscreen each time your child is exposed to harmful UV rays. Nothing ruins a vacation faster than a sunburn.
- Assign a swim buddy: Always make sure your child is supervised while playing in water. Having a swim buddy adds an extra layer of protection and talking to your child about swim safety will decrease the chances of accidents and injury.
- Keep Allergies away: Allergies can make the most beautiful day miserable for a child with allergies. Make sure to give your child an antihistamine such as Zyrtec, Claritin or Allegra to keep those allergens away.
- Bike Safety: Spring break is a great time for a bike ride. Always have your child wear protective gear such as a helmet to protect them from head injury. Teach your child to follow the rules of the road so everyone remains safe.
Enjoy the break and see you next week!
ATHLETIC NEWS:
Volleyball: Congrats to both girls and boys teams for finishing second in the city this year! Both teams were very competitive and played some of their best volleyball at the end. It was a great season with a lot of growth for the players and we are already looking forward to next season! Coach Ada and Coach Taylor are very proud of the performances we saw all season. Players should keep an eye out for any announcements on the Google Classroom for updates about any camps or clinics over the summer. Also, try to get out and watch some high school matches. Boys are in season. There is a lot to learn from watching!
Spring Track: Coach Gibbs and I were thrilled to see so many talented and enthusiastic athletes this year. We truly wish we could keep everyone!
- Final rosteres will be shared on Friday by 5 pm. (I will email parents directly)
Between the students we saw for Gr. 7 & 8 and for Gr. 5 & 6; our team is off to a strong start and we are proud of every student who gave it their all!
I have created a workout plan for vacation week with various levels of intensity to ensure there is something for everyone to prepare them for when we return! This will be found in our Remind Class here. We hope everyone enjoys a healthy, fun-filled break and we look forward to getting to work when we return!
Your kiddos BIGGEST fans,
Coach Law & Gibbs
